Obsidian

After grieving the loss of her father, Cathy Hoffman took the narrative of their trialed relationship, and crafted a poem entitled “Obsidian (A Father’s Repose)". After reconnecting with her former musical collaborator Kacie Swierk (Chicago, IL), the two began to craft the poem into a song. The result was so profound that Kacie’s band ‘Albion West’ recorded and released Obsidian as a single in January 2024.

Cathy approached OOAK after plans were made to have Albion West perform 2 shows in her hometown of Chatham, Ontario. OOAK documented the performances and interviewed Cathy to create a micro documentary about the creation of this hauntingly beautiful piece of music.
